If you've been looking for a family home close to town yet with that special country feel, then your search may well end here, at 'Highview'.
This is a comfortable and very livable family home, of solid construction and positioned to capture heaps of sun and views. Land area is over 4 ha (10 acres), mostly in bush, but allowing for further subdivision down to 2 ha under current zoning. The house is spread over 3 levels, and allows for just about any family configuration, with 4 large bedrooms (including a spacious master bedroom with private deck), 3 living/dining areas and office, generous kitchen, plus extra nooks and heaps of storage cupboards. A huge north-facing deck is ideal for summer BBQs and entertaining friends, while inside two fireplaces set the scene for cosy winters. Around the house, the grounds are fenced and gated, with flat lawn areas and mature trees. The views are a feature of this property, with a far-reaching outlook over a bush valley on one side of the house, and sea & Rangitoto views on the other. Located mere minutes away from Albany City Centre shopping, educational and recreational amenities, and of course the fabulous East Coast beaches. Given its location and layout, it would also make an ideal Bed-and-Breakfast.
Our vendors have made this property their home for 16 years, and now they are ready to move on. We asked for their thoughts on why they have loved living in Lonely Track Road, and owner Marie describes in her own words below.
"The house is named "Highview" which, to me, says it all. We were instantly stunned by the beautiful views from the house but were soon to discover even more : - summer evenings when vivid orange and red sunsets light up the leaves and branches of the trees in the valley turning them to gold; sparkling days when the Coromandel Peninsular can be seen clearly across the waters of the Hauraki Gulf; misty mornings when the mist plays amongst the trees in the valley and the tree tips stand high above the mist; watching ships and yachts sailing up the Hauraki Gulf, past Rangitoto, setting off on their journeys and taking our minds off our work. From the windows of my sitting room I can see up close the tui, kereru, kotare, and even the much maligned rosellas darting about in the branches of the trees. Californian quail nest in the bush below the garden - and the adults bring their new chicks wandering across the deck. Mallard ducks have come to visit. Relaxing on the deck is a pleasure - dinner parties or just a cup of coffee to enjoy the peace and quiet. The little pathway , just below the deck - which children love to explore with all the excitement and adventure of going into the bush, down the steps, along the path and up the steps on the other side. Or take a walk down the garden to go even further into the bush and be completely alone. The interior layout of the house has a lot of flexibility - guests/teenagers can be in their own area undisturbed; sleeping eight guests without feeling overcrowded; but on the other hand a sense of ease with just two people; relaxing on the settee with a book in the cosy corner upstairs or just take in the views across the valley to the north; or the sun rise over the Coromandel and Rangitoto."
